Joy Beune secured a victory in the women’s 1500 meter event during the World Cup speed skating competition held at Thialf in Heerenveen.

Three distances were contested on Saturday in the World Cup at Thialf. The men’s 10,000 meter race was won by Czech skater Metodej Jilek, while American Jordan Stolz claimed the fastest time in the men’s 1000 meter event. In the sole women’s distance, the 1500 meters, Joy Beune emerged as the winner with a time of 1:53.10.
Beune, 26 years old and the reigning world champion, recorded her third World Cup win of the season, having previously claimed victories in Salt Lake City and Calgary. She finished ahead of Japan’s Miho Takagi, the world record holder, who placed fifth with a time of 1:53.89. Dutch skater Antoinette Rijpma-De Jong briefly held the fastest time at 1:53.36, and junior skater Angel Daleman set a track record for juniors with 1:53.98 during the competition.
In the men’s competitions, Metodej Jilek maintained the lead in the 10,000 meter event with a time of 12:29.63, followed by Italy’s Davide Ghiotto and French skater Loubineaud in second and third place respectively. The 1000 meter men’s event saw Jordan Stolz posting the best time at 1:06.38 after eight heats, with Dutch athletes Joep Wennemars and Tim Prins competing in the later rounds.
