Regarding his 500-meter race the day before, Wennemars downplayed its significance, acknowledging that the performance level was not high and that he had anticipated this. His primary focus remained on the 1000-meter event, approached with the mindset of giving his best effort before returning to training in Collalbo.
Crossing the finish line of the 1000 meters, he was positively surprised by his time, though he pointed out that he had deliberately not tapered his training to peak for this event. He explained that he intentionally skipped the 1500 meters earlier in the week as part of his preparation strategy leading up to the upcoming Olympic Games, not to improve his 1000-meter result but to prioritize training.
Wennemars noted that the conditions at the Inzell track are challenging, with a heavy ice surface and noticeable altitude effects, factors that affect all competitors. Nevertheless, he indicated he felt physically capable and pleased with having achieved more than his initial goals.
