Damian Zurek secured victory in the second 500 meter race of the Inzell World Cup weekend, finishing ahead of top competitor Jordan Stolz and improving his own track record.

Jenning de Boo finished in fourth place with a time of 34.37 seconds, unable to challenge Damian Zurek and Jordan Stolz in the 500 meter race at the Inzell World Cup. De Boo stated that this was the maximum he could achieve this weekend. The Polish skater Damian Zurek once again outpaced the favorite Stolz, clocking in at 34.06 seconds and surpassing his own previous track record of 34.09 seconds. Stolz followed closely with a time of 34.10 seconds.
De Boo described Zurek as a “wrecking ball” and acknowledged that seeing Stolz defeated showed that even top athletes have their limits, which provided motivation ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games. Before this tournament, Zurek had not won during the current World Cup season, making his two victories at Inzell noteworthy, though they were not enough to take the overall title away from Stolz.
De Boo’s performances this weekend were below his expectations after a strong showing at the Dutch Olympic qualifier. His times on the first day did not earn him any medals, and he was unable to improve significantly on the second day. De Boo also noted a disappointing start time during his race and witnessed a competitor fall during the event.
In the mass start event, no Dutch skaters won medals. Instead, nineteen-year-old Czech skater took the lead early and claimed the victory, followed by French skater Mathieu Belloir in second and Italian Andrea Giovannini in third. Dutch skaters Jorrit Bergsma and Stijn van de Bunt finished eleventh and nineteenth respectively. Bergsma’s result was still sufficient to secure the overall World Cup ranking in the mass start.
The Dutch teamsprint squad, consisting of Stefan Westenbroek, Kayo Vos, and Merijn Scheperkamp, earned the bronze medal behind the United States and Norway. The American team finished 1.72 seconds ahead of the Dutch trio.
