Jenning’s coaches noted his impressive explosiveness during the start of races, observing how after a few strides he would quickly pull ahead of the other skaters by five to ten meters. They also remembered his characteristic posture, with his chin raised high and neck fully extended at the start. Although this head position often tilted backward, the coaches worked extensively with him on this aspect, making him easily recognizable when he started from a distance.
According to the coaches, Jenning’s distinguishing factor was not just his physical capabilities but also the way he learned. Coach Langhout explained that while natural ability is important, talent encompasses the entire package. Jenning demonstrated an exceptional capacity to absorb instructions immediately and apply them effectively, making him highly trainable.
His curiosity was another remarkable trait. Landman recounted an instance during a summer training session in Heerenveen where she observed how effortlessly Jenning glided over the ice. He later approached her, expressing admiration for her skating technique at just eleven years old. This moment stood out as particularly special.
