The 23-year-old athlete from Utrecht balances his time between the Olympic Village and the ice rink, managing training sessions with his teammates and seeking moments of rest when possible. On Thursday afternoon, Van de Bunt briefly stepped out of this routine to speak with the Dutch press, where a group of ten to fifteen journalists gathered to hear from the Olympic debutant. He candidly described the bustling breakfast area, a long bus journey, and informal moments such as playing table football with an Austrian athlete in the village.

When the conversation turned to his skating performance, Van de Bunt remained reserved about specifics. He acknowledged that lap times seem lower than usual for many athletes but emphasized that his team, Team IKO-X2O, was not affected by these conditions. He also mentioned adapting quickly to the ice without revealing the methods he used, noting that not all skaters might be aware of his approach.

Van de Bunt faces a demanding schedule, starting with the five-kilometer race on Sunday, followed by the ten-kilometer on February 13. He will then participate in the team pursuit qualifications on Sunday, with finals set for Tuesday, February 17. The competition will conclude with the mass start event on February 21. After the press session, Van de Bunt returned to his apartment to enjoy some quiet time before resuming his intensive schedule.
