Brittany Bowe, the American speed skater, is set to conclude her Olympic career at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games, marking her fourth and final participation in the event.

At 37 years old, Bowe enters the Milan events with a sense of peace and acceptance, acknowledging that this will be her last Olympic competition. Having previously won bronze medals in the team pursuit at PyeongChang 2018 and the 1,000 metres at Beijing 2022, Bowe is aiming to achieve Olympic gold before retiring.
She expressed contentment in being able to approach this final experience with a reflective mindset, appreciating the opportunity to compete while still maintaining her competitive edge. Bowe emphasized how quickly the last four years have passed since Beijing and feels fortunate to end her career on her own terms.
Despite her focus on winning a medal, Bowe is committed to remaining grounded, concentrating on enjoying the process rather than the outcome which remains beyond her control. She highlighted the joy of competing in front of large crowds, a contrast to the mostly spectator-free Beijing Games caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beyond speed skating, Bowe has shown support for her partner, Hilary Knight, captain of the U.S. women’s ice hockey team, attending her team’s opening game victory at Milano Cortina. The presence of their families added to the spirited atmosphere during the competition.
Bowe will compete in the 1,000 metres, 1,500 metres, and team pursuit events at the Milano Speed Skating Stadium, with her birthday falling shortly after the closing ceremony. Her participation symbolizes the culmination of a distinguished Olympic journey.
