The event will begin to take shape in the tenth heat when Kjeld Nuis, the 36-year-old Dutch Olympic champion of 2018, competes against Japanese skater Taiyo Nonomura. Nuis is expected to showcase his strong racing skills in this head-to-head contest.
Following Nuis, Joep Wennemars will participate in the eleventh heat. As the reigning world and Dutch champion, Wennemars is considered a consistent contender for podium finishes this season based on his strong performances.
The fourteenth heat is set to be the highlight of the evening as Jordan Stolz faces Jennings de Boo. Stolz, the current world record holder with a time of 1:05.37, is regarded as the main competitor to beat despite his fourteenth-place finish in the 1000 meters at the previous Olympic Games.
