Speed Skating Competitors Seek Redemption in Upcoming 500 Meter Races

Piotr Michalski and Joep Wennemars, both affected by interference in the 1000 meter race, will compete in the sixth heat of the 500 meter event to attempt a comeback, though a podium finish remains unlikely for either.

Schaatsen.nl, a Dutch sports news outlet, reports on the schedule and key matchups for the upcoming speed skating races.

In the thirteenth heat, there will be a rematch of the 1000 meter race featuring Jordan Stolz against Jenning de Boo. Stolz was the fastest on Wednesday in the 600 meter event, which could provide him confidence going into Saturday’s race. Following that, Sebas Diniz will compete against Damian Zurek, a Polish skater who has won the last two World Cup events and is considered a strong title contender. The competition will conclude with races involving Wataru Morishige and Bjørn Magnussen.

Earlier in the afternoon, starting at 4 p.m., the women’s qualification rounds for the team pursuit event will take place. Of the eight teams competing, the four fastest will advance to the semifinals scheduled for Tuesday. Joy Beune, Marijke Groenewoud, and Antoinette Rijpma – de Jong will participate in the first heat of these qualifiers.

Complete draw information and live updates are available on the official results page of the event.
