Kjeld Nuis has expressed strong determination to win a medal in his final Olympic 1500 metre race, despite telling himself beforehand to simply enjoy the experience.
According to Schaatsen.nl, the Dutch speed skater shared his mindset ahead of the competition, emphasizing the importance of performing at his best rather than just hoping for a favorable outcome. Nuis, who won Olympic gold in 2018 and 2022, has continued to demonstrate strong form this season with two silver and two bronze medals in World Cup events, along with a fifth-place finish.
He acknowledged that he cannot approach the race casually and must be fully focused and sharp to deliver a good performance. Reflecting on his recent 1000 metre race, Nuis noted he felt less urgency then, allowing himself to release some of the pressure before the 1500 metre event. Now, facing what will be his final Olympic race, the emotional weight has grown stronger.
Nuis also revealed he became unexpectedly emotional when attempting to post a message on social media about the significance of this being his last Olympic appearance. Although typically not one to show such emotions publicly, the reality of the moment has made him conscious of savoring his final opportunity on the ice during the Games.
