Dutch speed skater Kjeld Nuis has decided to skip the upcoming national sprint championships and conclude his season ahead of schedule.
The decision means Nuis will not compete at the NK sprint event scheduled for the coming weekend, where he could have qualified for the World Sprint Championships taking place a week later. Despite having the opportunity to secure a spot at the world event in Thialf, Nuis has chosen not to pursue this path.
As an Olympic bronze medalist in the 1500 meters from Milan, Nuis cited the intense effort required as a reason for ending his season early. He expressed that competing would require pushing himself to an extreme degree, a challenge he is currently not inclined to take on.
This development is significant in the Dutch speed skating community, given Nuis’ status as a top-tier athlete and his previous successes on the international stage.
