Femke Kok concluded her season by winning her first world sprint title, demonstrating a commanding performance in Thialf where she won all distances on the second day of the competition.
According to NOS, the Dutch skater, aged 25, not only won every race but also led a completely Dutch podium, with Suzanne Schulting taking second place and Marrit Fledderus securing third. This marks the first time a full Dutch podium has been achieved at this tournament.
Kok is the fourth Dutch woman to claim the world sprint title, following in the footsteps of Marianne Timmer, Jorien Ter Mors, and Jutta Leerdam. Previously, Kok finished second in 2022 and 2024 but this is her first world title. The Olympic 500-meter champion set a track record on the shortest sprint distance on the first day of the tournament, finishing in 36.67 seconds.
In addition to Kok’s success, fellow Dutch skater Jenning de Boo has a chance to become world sprint champion as well later in the event. Should he succeed, trainer Gerard van Velde will have guided two world sprint champions under the Reggeborgh team. The last time two Dutch skaters won world sprint championships in the same year was in 2022, when Thomas Krol and Jutta Leerdam both took the titles.
