Jenning de Boo, the world sprint champion and two-time Olympic silver medalist, was recognized with several honors at Kardinge ice rink, where he began his skating career.
According to Schaatsen.nl, the municipality of Groningen awarded De Boo a golden sports medal to acknowledge his outstanding season, and his skating club YVG (IJsvereniging Groningen) presented him with a commemorative badge. In addition, YVG inaugurated an annual award named the Jenning de Boo Trophy, which is given to the most promising talent each year.
A large banner featuring a photo of De Boo and his quote, “There is no perfection, but striving for it is my goal,” was unveiled on the curve of the Groningen ice rink. De Boo expressed pride at having his image displayed alongside notable figures such as Marianne Timmer and Henk Gemser. He described the honor as “super cool.”
During YVG’s club championship event, De Boo and fellow skater Marcel Bosker, the national allround champion, were special guests. Bosker also received a badge from YVG and a bronze sports medal from the city of Groningen. The two athletes took time to interact with YVG’s young skaters by signing autographs, taking photos, skating with them, and awarding medals to the new club champions.
Since the Winter Olympics, medal-winning athletes like De Boo have been celebrated repeatedly. Following his victory at the World Sprint Championships—where he defeated Olympic champion Jordan Stolz—De Boo has had little rest. He plans to take a well-deserved vacation soon and will be traveling to South Africa to enjoy some time in the sun.
