Patrick Roest has decided to continue his speed skating career for at least one more year by extending his contract with Team Reggeborgh, while choosing a different preparation strategy for the upcoming season.
According to NOS Schaatsen, the 30-year-old speed skater from Lekkerkerk, who holds three world allround championships and four titles at the World Cup distances, has signed on for another year with Team Reggeborgh. Despite his previous successes, the past two seasons were disappointing for Roest, and notably, he was absent from the most recent Olympic Games in Milan.
While Team Reggeborgh’s squad, which includes prominent skaters such as Kjeld Nuis, Jenning de Boo, and Femke Kok, is currently training in Mallorca, Roest has chosen not to join them. He explained that after evaluating last season with his coaching staff, they agreed that a different preparation method suits him better. This new approach will involve more individual training sessions, allowing Roest to spend additional time at his family’s farm. On the team’s website, Roest expressed optimism about the upcoming season, noting that he feels in good condition and is progressing well in training.
