Merel Conijn has announced her departure from Team AH Zaanlander after two years with the squad, with plans to reveal her next career move in the near future.
De Telegraaf, a Dutch news outlet, reports on Conijn’s decision to leave the team.
The 24-year-old speed skater, born in Amsterdam, posted on Instagram that she is saying goodbye to Team Albert Heijn Zaanlander after a rewarding two-year period. She indicated that further details on her future plans will be shared soon.
Earlier this year, under the guidance of head coach Jillert Anema, Conijn won a silver medal in the 5000 meters at the Winter Games in Milan. However, she expressed disappointment with her ninth-place finish in the 3000 meters event.
Conijn joined Team AH Zaanlander two years ago, transferring from the squad coached by Jac Orie, now known as Team Essent. Her departure marks a new chapter in her professional speed skating career.
