Bart Swings has extended his contract with X2O Badkamers, committing to the team until the end of his skating career.
Schaatsen.nl, a Dutch sports news outlet, reports that the 35-year-old Belgian athlete’s contract renewal reflects not only his sporting achievements but also his valued role within the team.
Swings, known for his accomplishments including Olympic gold in the mass start event and multiple world and European titles on inline skates, has overcome a significant knee injury. His coach, Martin ten Hove, highlighted Swings’ recent success with six European skeelers titles as evidence of his full recovery and ongoing competitive form. Ten Hove emphasized the team’s commitment to supporting Swings for as long as he continues to compete.
The skater expressed his gratitude for the lifelong contract, describing it as a meaningful recognition from his team. While this kind of contract is uncommon in professional ice skating, it is not without precedent, with fellow skater Kjeld Nuis having signed a similar long-term agreement in 2025.
