Speed skater Jutta Leerdam sustained minor injuries after being struck by a car driven by a motorist distracted by their phone.

The 26-year-old athlete shared on TikTok that a man who was using his phone while driving drove into her lane, causing the collision. She noted that the driver was fortunate she was resilient, as she sustained abrasions to her chin, lip, and wrist. Video footage shared by Leerdam shows these minor injuries.
The impact of her injuries on upcoming competitions is currently unknown. The speed skating World Cup event is set to take place next week at Thialf. The following month, Leerdam plans to compete in the Olympic qualification tournament in Heerenveen with the aim of securing a place in the 2026 Winter Olympics. She previously won a silver medal in the 1000 meters at the 2022 Beijing Games.
