After the Olympics, speed skater Kok took time to reflect on her achievements during a demanding season that included the ISU World Sprint Championships, emphasizing the importance of enjoying moments alongside striving for success.
According to Schaatsen.nl in the Netherlands, Kok had little opportunity to pause following the Olympic Games due to ongoing competitions like the ISU World Sprint Championships. It was only during a subsequent rest period that she reviewed footage of her Olympic race. She noticed her tense expression before the start and realized how extraordinary the season had been. This reflection taught her that taking time to appreciate achievements is as crucial as pursuing performance goals. Kok acknowledged that after an intense season, it is important to pause rather than immediately move forward toward new objectives.
While Kok has made significant progress in the 1000 meters and had a surprisingly strong debut in the 1500 meters, her favourite distance remains the 500 meters. She explained that she continues to improve in the 1000 meters each year and that her results in the 1500 meters have exceeded expectations. However, she does not intend to shift her focus away from the 500 meters, ensuring that her training for the longer distances does not detract from her performance in her preferred event.
Kok also expressed respect for her competitors, particularly Jutta Leerdam, noting that whether Leerdam continues her career does not alter Kok’s own approach to skating. She described Leerdam as an excellent athlete and wished for her to continue, while recognizing that the decision is ultimately hers. Kok remains aware that competition is constant, with many skilled skaters currently active and new talent always emerging, which keeps the sport engaging. Her priority is to concentrate on her personal development and achieving her best regardless of who her opponents may be.
