Boersma to Compete in Milan 500 Meter with Support from Coach Otterspeer

Evelien Vijn’s participation in upcoming events remains uncertain, while Boersma prepares for the 500 meter race in Milan accompanied by coach Hein Otterspeer.

Schaatsen.nl, a Dutch skating news outlet, reports on the latest developments surrounding the preparation of Team Staan – CTS Group athletes for upcoming competitions.

Hein Otterspeer will accompany Boersma to Poland as her coach ahead of the 500 meter event in Milan next month. Otterspeer, who leads Team Staan – CTS Group, has been working on a tailored program for Boersma since the Olympic Qualification Tournament sponsored by the Staatsloterij. The team has decided against participating in the World Cup as it conflicts with other commitments and may prove too demanding when combined with the European Championships.

Regarding Evelien Vijn’s involvement, Otterspeer expressed hope that she will be selected by the Selection Committee. Her participation depends on the decisions of Albert Heijn Zaanlander’s women’s team. If Marijke and her teammates opt to compete in Inzell, Vijn might race in the three-kilometer event and possibly the mass start. The team is awaiting further confirmation.

Boersma’s plans after the European Championships include spending a few days training with the full team under the Spanish sun, followed by resuming ice training in Thialf. Other team members will prepare for events such as the Utrecht City Cup and Kraantje Lek in Eindhoven. Isabel is expected to take part in the World Cup in Inzell, alongside other Olympians who typically participate in such events leading up to Milan.

Otterspeer is optimistic about Boersma’s chances at the European Championships despite strong competition from Polish skaters. He highlights Boersma’s professional approach and maturity, noting her ability to manage pressure effectively during the Olympic Qualification Tournament. According to Otterspeer, she remains confident and well-prepared, which bodes well for upcoming competitions.
