Several Dutch speed skaters encountered travel uncertainties as they prepared to depart for the European Speed Skating Championships in Warsaw due to adverse weather forecasts and flight disruptions.

While most Olympic athletes were training at Thialf, their teammates experienced uncertainty regarding their flights to Warsaw. The predicted snowfall for Wednesday triggered concerns that prompted several teams to adjust their travel plans. Four teams decided to depart one day earlier than originally scheduled to avoid possible travel disruptions caused by the weather. Reggeborgh’s quintet was the first to leave, with a flight scheduled at 7:15 a.m. followed by Essent, Novus, and the KNSB team aiming to take off around 9:30 a.m.
Among the athletes, Angel Daleman and Chloé Hoogendoorn of Essent arrived early at the gate, initially worried about the status of their flight. They briefly experienced anxiety when it appeared that their flight might have been canceled; however, it was later clarified that the canceled flight was scheduled for the following day. Despite the stressful situation, both skaters accepted the uncertainties involved in their travel arrangements. Hoogendoorn noted she did not dwell extensively on the possibility of not being able to fly.
Meanwhile, the Novus team, which includes Dutch skater Naomi Verkerk, maintained a calmer approach while waiting. Their team manager, Lieuwe Krol, communicated potential changes in departure times due to weather concerns, which led to some initial uncertainty. Verkerk explained she remained relaxed about the situation and was prepared to stay with her parents near Schiphol Airport if necessary, while Krol managed the more hectic aspects of the logistics.
