Dutch athletes take part in early and final heats of the Olympic 1000 meter speed skating event, with a strong chance for medals.

The Dutch participation in the event begins early with Suzanne Schulting racing in the first heat against Italy’s Maybritt Vigl. Schulting, 28 years old, is also competing in the short track program during these Games. Femke Kok, considered an outsider for the podium, is set to race in the thirteenth heat against the experienced American Brittany Bowe, who ranks third in the World Cup standings for this distance.
The final race features Jutta Leerdam, who will skate in the fifteenth and last heat against Japan’s Miho Takagi. Takagi won the Olympic gold medal in this event four years ago in Beijing, where Leerdam secured the silver. At 27 years old, Leerdam is aiming for Olympic gold in Milan, seeking to fulfill her primary goal in the 1000 meter. Recently, Leerdam demonstrated her strong form by winning a World Cup event in Inzell with a new track record time of 1:12.74. Meanwhile, the Olympic record is currently held by Takagi at 1:13.19, set in February 2022.
The concluding heat promises to be highly competitive.
