Ragne Wiklund secured victory in the five-kilometre speed skating race through a strategic approach, outperforming Francesca Lollobrigida, who had previously won the three-kilometre event.

While Francesca Lollobrigida was initially expected to continue her success from the three-kilometre event and claim gold in the longer distance, it was suggested that her aggressive racing style might not be sustainable throughout the entire five kilometres. In contrast, Ragne Wiklund adopted a more measured and tactical approach, which ultimately earned her the top position.
Lollobrigida finished in second place and joined the podium ceremony alongside Merel Conijn, who claimed the bronze medal. Conijn’s performance was noted as impressive, particularly given her unique skating style, which includes variations in hand positioning during the race. Although Conijn is no longer part of coach Jac Orie’s team, her early development was influenced by him. This podium lineup reflects both competitive skill and a sense of sportsmanship within the speed skating community.
