At nineteen years old, Merijn Scheperkamp was offered a contract by Jumbo-Visma, now known as Essent. The following year, he made his debut in the World Cup circuit. His notable breakthrough came late in 2021 during the Olympic Qualification Tournament, where he surprised many by recording a time of 34.45 seconds in his second run. This achievement secured his Olympic debut and the European 500-meter championship title.
Following these accomplishments, Scheperkamp faced difficulties in maintaining his performance levels. During the holiday period, he reflected on his career trajectory, acknowledging the pressure of being regarded as the leading figure of Dutch sprinting.
