Jordan Stolz Wins Gold in 500m Speed Skating with New Olympic Record at Milan Cortina 2026

Jordan Stolz secured the gold medal in the men’s 500-meter speed skating event at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, setting a new Olympic record in the process.

Stolz finished the race in 33.77 seconds, surpassing the previous Olympic record and earning his second gold medal of these games. The American athlete narrowly defeated Jenning de Boo, who finished just 0.11 seconds behind with a time of 33.88 seconds. After 100 meters, de Boo trailed Stolz by 0.07 seconds but managed to catch up at the turnaround before Stolz surged ahead on the final straight.

Earlier in the competition, Canadian skater Laurent Dubreuil broke the former Olympic record with a time of 34.26 seconds, narrowly beating the previous gold-winning time from four years ago. Dubreuil ultimately earned the bronze medal. Sebas Diniz finished in fifth place with a time close to Dubreuil’s performance, clocking in at 34.46 seconds.

Other Dutch skater Joep Wennemars experienced a disappointing result, placing 21st with a time of 34.89 seconds. This was after an earlier collision on the 1000-meter event with a Chinese competitor. Stolz and de Boo faced each other twice during the Olympics, with Stolz also competing in mass start and 1500-meter events scheduled later. De Boo’s participation in these games has concluded.

The men’s 500m race showcased intense competition, with Stolz demonstrating superior speed in the final stretch to secure victory and set a new standard for future Olympic competitions.
