The final took place in Milan on February 17, 2026, where Team USA, composed of Casey Dawson, Ethan Cepuran, and Emery Lehman, competed against Italy. The Americans advanced to the gold medal race after a strong semifinal victory over China by nearly eight seconds. Italy reached the final by defeating the Netherlands, a traditionally strong speed skating nation, in their semifinal.
In the head-to-head final event, both teams skated eight laps around the 400-meter track. Italy finished with a time of 3 minutes and 39.20 seconds, besting the U.S. team by 4.51 seconds. Meanwhile, China claimed the bronze medal after defeating the Netherlands.
The U.S. has a history of success in this Olympic event since its introduction in 2006, having previously won a silver medal in 2010 and bronze medals in 2022 and now again in 2026. Dawson, Cepuran, and Lehman were also part of the 2022 bronze-winning team, contributing experience to the squad’s podium finish this year.
