Dutch speed skater Wijfje has announced her retirement, reflecting on her career and the impact of the recent Olympic Games on her decision.

Wijfje was a prominent figure in Dutch speed skating for many years. Her most notable national accomplishment came in 2020 when she became the Dutch champion in the 1500 meter event. Internationally, she gained recognition primarily as part of the Dutch team pursuit squad, with which she won two European titles and earned a silver medal at the 2020 World Championships. During her junior career, she was also a standout performer, claiming several world junior titles, including victories in the 1500 meter, 3000 meter, and the overall allround classification at the 2015 Junior World Championships. She entered the international elite ranks at an early age and competed for several commercial teams, such as Team Albert Heijn Zaanlander, Team IKO, and Team4Gold/JustLease.
