Diane de Lugt-Valkenburg, a former long track speed skater and experienced trainer, will transition this summer from Essent’s marathon division to the long track team.

De Lugt-Valkenburg, who is 41 years old and also holds a degree in movement sciences, has been involved with Essent’s marathon team since its inception. During her time there, she developed training programs for skaters including Harm Visser and contributed to the team’s strong performances. She remarked that she has enjoyed her experience with the marathon squad and has gained valuable knowledge.
In her new role, de Lugt-Valkenburg will work alongside head coach Jac Orie on the ice. She expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to apply her expertise in the long track discipline and to support the development of the skaters. She also sees the move as a chance to continue her own professional growth within the sport.
