Jennifer Verkerk has secured a transfer to a new team following several years of dedicated efforts and gradual progress in her speed skating career.

In 2022, Verkerk was unable to find a place with any commercial teams and instead became part of the newly formed Team Novus, an international collective led by Daniel Greig. Despite a lack of financial certainty, Verkerk, along with fellow skater Dione Voskamp, embraced this new opportunity and demonstrated steady improvement.
Last December, Verkerk showed notable performance by finishing third in the 1000 meters at the Staatsloterij Olympic Qualification Tournament, briefly raising hopes of Olympic participation. However, she ultimately missed qualification as her spot was transferred to Jutta Leerdam, who went on to win the Olympic title in Milan.
With several Dutch teammates leaving Team Novus — including Voskamp retiring and Serge Yoro moving to X2O Badkamers — Verkerk has also decided to pursue a new direction. Specializing in the 500 and 1000 meter distances, she differs from many teammates who focus on longer distances. Her new coach, Anema, has experience successfully working with sprinters, demonstrated previously with Heather Bergsma-Richardson.
