The Reggeborgh speed skating team gathered on Wednesday morning at the Heerde roller skating track to commence their first joint training session of the season.
Schaatsen.nl, published in the Netherlands, reports on the team’s preparations for the upcoming season.
As in previous years, coach Gerard van Velde preferred to start the training in his home province. Among the team members, Wesly Dijs stands out as a longstanding participant, marking his ninth consecutive season skating in the green and black colors of Reggeborgh. Dijs humorously referred to himself as the only ‘original gangster’ of the team, reflecting his status as a member of the more experienced group within the squad.
After the past winter season, Dijs took some time to evaluate which team would be the best fit for his future career. Although he engaged in discussions with other teams, these talks remained in the exploratory phase. Dijs explained that following eight seasons under Gerard van Velde’s leadership, it was valuable to consider other options to gain new perspectives. Ultimately, he found that the familiar and supportive atmosphere of the Reggeborgh team influenced his decision to continue with them.
