Erben Wennemars has announced his departure from his role as a skating analyst at NOS after 17 years, citing the challenges of balancing his professional duties with his responsibilities as the father of competitive skater Joep Wennemars.
De Telegraaf, a Dutch news outlet, reports on this development.
Erben Wennemars explained that in recent years his dual role as both an analyst and the father of a prize-contending skater led to perceptions among critics that complicated his work. Consequently, he felt unable to perform his analyst duties with the openness and impartiality he values, which informed his decision to step down.
He added that he has always carried out his analyst role with great dedication and enjoyment. Xander van der Wulp, head editor of NOS Sport, expressed respect for Wennemars’ decision and noted that the organization regrets his departure, acknowledging the enthusiasm he brought to the role.
Discussions regarding Wennemars’ dual position had been ongoing, with recognition that while he managed the responsibilities professionally, it was occasionally challenging to balance both roles effectively.
