De Jong’s willingness to share personal reflections on social media resonated widely, both within the skating community and among the wider public. She noted receiving many responses from people who related to her story, which she found particularly meaningful. While she does not intend to share her full life story online, her main goal is to encourage young athletes by demonstrating that success requires effort and does not come automatically.
Unexpectedly, her openness has also led to new business opportunities. She had been looking for a new sponsor for a shoulder logo as well as a mobility partner. De Jong has since secured a mobility partner and considers that a positive development, though she mentioned with a laugh that a shoulder logo sponsor is still welcome.
After taking a deliberate break, De Jong reports feeling stronger both physically and mentally. Within Team Spaan – CTS Group, she has found her place, noting that the team is now smaller with more personalized attention, which provides a sense of calm. She reflected that last year was a period of adjustment, but this year they have a clearer understanding of what approach works best for her.
Her sporting ambitions remain strong. De Jong aims to compete internationally again, improve her performance, and win events. She is particularly focused on her dream of becoming an Olympic champion. However, she emphasized that her approach has shifted from one centered on perfectionism and control towards one based on space, relaxation, and trust.
