Remy de Wit, the technical director of the Dutch skating federation (KNSB), will leave his position on September 1 to take on a new role as High Performance Director at the Dutch basketball federation.
De Telegraaf, a news outlet in the Netherlands, reports on this transition.
De Wit, aged 51, joined the KNSB in July 2018 as the successor to Arie Koops and has led the organization through two Olympic cycles. During his tenure, Dutch ice skating disciplines under TeamNL achieved notable success, securing a total of 36 Olympic medals across long track speed skating and short track at the Beijing 2022 and Milan-Cortina 2026 Games. Of these, 18 were gold medals, with the 2026 Winter Olympics marking the most successful Games for the KNSB with 10 golds.
Reflecting on his time with the KNSB, De Wit expressed pride in the accomplishments achieved, attributing the success to the collective effort of many individuals who contributed in various capacities. Prior to his work in skating, he held roles in basketball from 2005 until late 2016, which influenced his decision to return to the sport.
The KNSB has not yet announced who will succeed De Wit as technical director.
