Jordan Stolz Plans Long-Term Career Shift Aiming for Two More Olympic Games

Olympic speed skating champion Jordan Stolz is planning to adjust his training approach with the goal of competing in at least two more Olympic Games in 2030 and 2034.

Schaatsen.nl, a Dutch news outlet, reports on Stolz’s intentions to focus on long-term development in preparation for future Olympics.

The 22-year-old American athlete, who won Olympic gold medals in Milan for the 500 and 1000 meter events, shared in a recent interview with an American newspaper that he has decided to take a different course in his career. Stolz expressed the importance of thinking long term, specifically aiming to perform at his best through the 2034 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. He noted that optimal performance over the next eight years will be crucial.

Stolz also commented on his past collaboration with his coach, Mike Corby, highlighting their strong relationship and Corby’s role in his development. However, Stolz indicated a desire to train in a manner that will better prepare him for the extended timeline leading up to the next two Olympic cycles, implying adjustments in coaching or training style.

Corby, who began working with Stolz in 2018 shortly after the young athlete’s previous coach passed away, expressed surprise about Stolz’s intentions to change course. Having assumed their partnership would continue, especially since Stolz still planned to follow his summer training programs, Corby admitted it was a shock to hear that Stolz desired a different approach. Since their collaboration began, Stolz achieved remarkable success, winning nearly every major speed skating title available, underscoring his exceptional talent.
