From 2028, speed skating enthusiasts in South Holland will be able to skate at Rotterdam The Hague Airport, as the current 400-meter mobile ice rink is set to move due to ground subsidence issues.

The existing ice rink, which is currently erected annually at the premises of hockey club RHV Leonidas, faces challenges due to the subsidence of the ground beneath it. This issue has made the continuation at the present location unfeasible, prompting a search for a new site.
After several years of consideration, organizers of Schaatsbaan Rotterdam have partnered with Rotterdam The Hague Airport. Subject to favorable results from ongoing investigations, the ice rink is expected to be installed on the airport’s parking lot P3. The facility would operate roughly from November 1 to March 1 each year, with slight variations to align with holiday schedules.
The timing coincides with the airport experiencing lower vacation traffic, allowing an efficient use of space during these months. The move aims to serve the approximately 250,000 annual visitors who come to enjoy the skating rink in the region.
