Eva Vijn, a 23-year-old athlete from North Holland, has been invited to join the VolkersWessels cycling team as a trainee following her victory in the climbing race at Vresse-sur-Semois in Belgium this summer.
Schaatsen.nl, a Dutch news outlet, reports on her transition from skating to cycling.
Vijn’s strong performance during the summer race attracted attention within the cycling community, leading to the VolkersWessels team offering her the opportunity to finish the season with them in a trainee role. At VolkersWessels, she will reunite with Eline Jansen, a longtime friend and former skating colleague who currently competes in the Tour de France Femmes for the same team.
Although Vijn remains uncertain about leaving skating behind—she finished eighth in the recent Dutch National Allround Championships—she has expressed enthusiasm for pursuing cycling. She emphasized her newly discovered passion for the sport and her desire to improve as a rider, viewing the VolkersWessels environment as ideal for her development. Vijn looks forward to the upcoming races and the chance to grow alongside her teammates.
