Two years ago, Jutta Leerdam made the unconventional decision to leave the commercial team Jumbo-Visma and pursue her Olympic ambitions alone. At the age of 27, she explained that many considered her choice to be unwise, but she was committed to following her own path. Leerdam described her journey as ‘high risk, high reward’ and highlighted the challenges, including stress and loneliness. She focused specifically on the 1,000 metres event, seeking to improve after winning silver in the same distance four years earlier at the Beijing Olympics.
