Suzanne Schulting and Janno Botman have emerged as the Dutch sprint champions, with both securing top positions at the Daikin NK sprint event in Heerenveen.

During the second day of the Daikin NK sprint, Suzanne Schulting maintained a substantial lead, ultimately defending her title with a strong performance. Janno Botman overcame a late challenge from Tim Prins on the final distance, securing the men’s championship. Alongside Schulting, Marrit Fledderus also qualified for next week’s World Sprint Championships, which will also take place in Heerenveen. Jutta Leerdam, initially slated to compete, announced earlier in the week that she would skip the World Championships, opening additional qualification spots.
On the women’s side, Schulting and Fledderus recorded identical times in the second 500-meter race, both finishing at 37.67 seconds, with Schulting edging out on the thousandths of a second and maintaining a 0.6-point lead. This advantage translated into a 1.2-second lead over Fledderus heading into the last 1,000-meter race, which Schulting extended by finishing a full second faster. Pien Smit secured third place overall, benefiting from her fourth-best time in the last race.
In the men’s competition, the final 1,000-meter race initially appeared to be a contest between Botman and Merijn Scheperkamp after Sebas Diniz withdrew due to illness. However, it was Tim Prins who posted an impressive time of 1:07.80 in the penultimate heat, moving ahead of Kayo Vos in the rankings. Scheperkamp was unable to surpass Prins’s time in the final heat and dropped off the podium. Botman held on to his lead, finishing 0.14 seconds ahead when recalculated to 500-meter equivalents.
