Femke Kok improved her own track record in the 500 meter speed skating event, posting a time of 36.87 seconds and maintaining her leading performance despite challenges from competitors.
According to Schaatsen.nl, Kok faced strong competition from Jutta Leerdam, who clocked a fast 37.22 seconds, momentarily putting pressure on Kok. However, Kok responded with a solid, confident race to outperform Leerdam by 0.35 seconds and break her own track record set earlier in 2024.
Kok shared that although her time matched her performance at the Dutch Olympic Trials, she felt the race was not her best effort. She attributed a loss of power in the final stretch to intensive recent training and a slight stumble early in the race. Nevertheless, she expressed satisfaction with achieving a time in the 36-second range and setting a new track record, seeing it as a positive step forward for her season.
The 25-year-old athlete remains composed and motivated, emphasizing that her current lead does not make her complacent. Kok is determined to continue pushing herself by staying aware of the increasing competitiveness among female skaters. She stated that the rising level of competition keeps her focused and eager each time she starts a race.
