Patrick Roest has decided to follow a customized training program designed by coach Robin Derks in preparation for the new season, following two challenging years in his career.
Schaatsen.nl, based in the Netherlands, reports on Roest’s new approach to training ahead of the season.
Roest explained that the decision to shift to an individualized training regimen was made after careful consideration in collaboration with his coaching team. He expressed gratitude for the continued support from his sponsor Reggeborgh, as well as the trainers, support staff, and fellow athletes, which proved vital during his difficult period. By training individually, Roest is able to spend more time at home on the family farm, which has had a positive effect on his overall well-being. He stated that he feels good and that the training sessions are going well. Roest has signed on for an additional year and looks forward to returning to full fitness by October.
Coach Robin Derks commented that choosing an unconventional training plan is a sensible decision for Roest, especially after two tough seasons. Derks expressed admiration for Roest’s mental strength and perseverance. The coach hopes that the upcoming season will showcase the return of Roest’s top form, something he wishes for both Dutch skating fans and for Roest personally.
